UPS thru Amazon vs Pallet shipment
Hi –
I’m working on reducing supply chain cost and one of the areas I’m looking at is shipping pallets vs shipping boxes through UPS at Amazon’s prices (to ship products to Amazon). I’ve always thought the UPS pricing thru Amazon was really low, but figured shipping pallets would be better. However, when priced out pallet shipments, the cost per unit is 2-3x higher than just shipping a case through AMZ/UPS.
I should state that I am shipping footwear and a case of 12 units is about 22x19x12″ and is about 18 lbs, so the cost is always based on volume, not weight. A pallet would weigh about 350 lbs and hold about 240 units.
I’ve heard truck shipping is better for denser, heavier items so I’m guessing that UPS is probably the better price, but I thought I should ask here since I’m not an expert on LCL trucking and could just be going to websites that have higher prices.
If anyone is an expert on LCL trucking, I’d love to hear your thought.
Thanks!
