Can PPC campaign launch on generic item ?

I am small seller. I dont have enough resources to register a brand name.

I want to know if I sell items as generic brand, Can I launch PPC campaign on those items? If okay, how to ensure the PPC is only benefit to my own items no the others selling the same generic items ?
