Customer intimated return but never returned the product

Anyone else wonders how amazon processes a sale where customer initiated a return but never returned the product?

I feel like it will never be treated as a sale, but a return where amazon will reimburse you for the invetnroy, which in total will be much smaller than if they retreated it as a sale.
