Has anyone successfully done Pre-Sales before product launch?

So, like the title says, anyone successful with this. Will be launching new product not offered on Amazon. We are Brand Registered, have all our ASINS set to go with our EBC, just waiting for our product. Product should ship from China next week. Once we have confirmation of air shipment, I wanted to do pre-sales to start getting some revenue coming.

If you’ve been successful with this, what was your experience like? Don’t want to try pre-sale if it will hurt our rankings coming out of the gate.
