Amazon asking for my Social Sec. # for Tax Information – I am Single Member LLC/Company
I’m not even deeply rooted in Amazon yet but I’m quite amazed at some of the errors and seeming misinformation that I’ve already encountered early on in my journey. Yes, I have been watching some of the Amazon Seller University also….
I have a single member LLC with an EIN(not my social). Amazon apparently thinks they want my social number to tack onto the account as opposed to the EIN of my company which actually makes the sales. I am aware of what a pass-through entity ease so please spare me the headache in trying to convince me that is what my post is about. In Amazon’s very own university video they seem to portray that my own name will be listed for the people to see on the Amazon profile since that is where the tax information goes. They literally said this in one of their videos so please don’t misunderstand me here. The name that I feel and KNOW should rightfully be displayed to the public is the name of the LLC, not my own name.
Additionally, Amazon wants to give out what is known as a 1099k form that shows the monetary amount of sales, etc that a seller makes. This is another problem since the IRS needs to see this under my EIN of my company and not my own SSN filing. This is what is termed as Schedule C for the company and then also all of the sales currently will be through the 1099k route. How in the world can I tell the IRS on my schedule C that I had nothing but expenses all the while the sales were made through Amazon and reported in a different 1099k section of my tax filings. I did browse around on the Amazon forums a little and actually found a few people with this nearly exact question but no appropriate answers.
Does anybody have any idea if Amazon even knows what they are doing with this stuff? What have some of you other sellers done on this topic when it comes to listing the EIN vs your SSN when you are a single member LLC???
