I’m new to selling through Amazon, but have a general idea.
I am creating a brand for a specific product that I am looking to sell on Amazon as well as at some local shops.
I come to you to ask a few questions about this journey. First let me elaborate on a few thiungs. My supplier will be from China(Alibaba), I have read previous posts that it is not a good option for a manufacturer, but there are no suppliers of this product in America. The product is quite heavy, my initial shipment from supplier will be a full 40ft container with about 1400 bags of product at 20 lbs per bag. THe product itse;f is not very costly, but the logistics and transportation is what will be taking up most of the expense.
I was quoted about $2400 for delivery to the nearest port near me, plus there will additional transportation fees. The product will be split into two, one(bigger chunk) going to Amazon warehouse and distribution and the other going to my house and I will distrubute it to the local stores.
I have read that I should have a China-based freight forwarder as well as hiring a private customs broker. Comparing some prices for overseas shipment the quote of $2400 did not sound bad, but lack of knowledge about this may hit me hard down the line.
Looking for opinions suggestions and open to any questions. I am very serious about what I am doing but seeing that this venture will cost me somewher e around $5000 in total makes me want to ask some questions form people with experience.
