Uneven buy box rotation?
Please help me settle a discussion with a friend! He went thru through Seller University some months ago, and swears up and down, that if there are a certain number of sellers on a listing, the buy box will rotate between them equally, (if they are all within a certain percentage of the “best price”)
In other words, if there are 10 sellers (at nearly the same price) and 100 purchases, each seller will sell their object in rotation – seller 1 makes a sale, then seller 2 makes a sale, then seller 3 and so on. End result being that each seller made 10 sales equally.
I have a hard time believing this and have not really been able to find proof either way.
From what I understand, lots of sellers use automatic re-pricers in order to undercut by a few pennies, thereby grabbing and keeping the buy box.
Even disregarding automatic re-pricing, where can I find proof that the above situation does or does not actually happen? He’s getting ready to sell on Amazon and I’m afraid his expectations are a little high.
He’s telling me, if there’s 1000 in sales a month and 10 sellers, he should be able to sell 100 on the same listing, forever and ever amen.
I’ve tried to find this answer before, so I apologize if it’s out there and I just can’t find it!
