What are the best ways to see the impact/benefit of promotions?

Within Seller Central, what do you do to best see how promotions are performing and if the return is worth the discount? There is the ability to manage promotions and see promotion reports which requires downloading to see, in addition to several different promotion type campaigns.

What tips or tricks have you seen that work best?
