Would anyone give a company $20,000 to set up an Amazon Store?

So, a professional I know told me that he invested $20,000 into a company that does all the purchasing and management of your store. Supposedly he’s making great money. TBC, the 20k is the fee and they work for you until you receive your 20k back from profits. They do mass purchases for numerous stores they manage so he now has 50k in his store product. IDK it seems to good to be true? Also after you get your 20k returned there is an agreement they continue to do all the work for a fee, I think it’s 30% of the profits.
