What are Amazon FBA Fees?
Before you start selling on Amazon, it’s important to understand what FBA fees are, because they have a direct impact on your profit margins. When you use Fulfillment by Amazon (FBA), Amazon takes care of storing your inventory, picking and packing orders, shipping them to customers, and handling customer service and returns. In return, Amazon charges a set of fees for these services.
The main FBA-related fees you’ll encounter include:
- Fulfillment fees: A per-unit fee charged every time you make a sale. This covers picking, packing, shipping, customer service, and returns, and is based on your product’s size and weight.
- Storage fees: Monthly charges for storing your inventory in Amazon’s fulfillment centers, calculated by how much space your products take up. Items stored too long can incur higher aged inventory fees.
- Referral fees: A percentage of each sale that Amazon takes for listing and selling your product on the marketplace. This varies by category but is typically around 8–15%.
- Other potential fees: Depending on how you manage inventory, you may also pay for removals, disposal, prep and labeling, or inbound shipping-related fees.
FBA can simplify fulfillment and help you qualify for Prime, but these fees add up quickly. Understanding them upfront makes it much easier to price your products correctly and run a profitable Amazon business.
Fulfillment Fees (What to Expect)
When you use Fulfillment by Amazon (FBA), you pay fulfillment fees for Amazon to handle the picking, packing, shipping, customer service, and returns for each order. These fees are charged per unit sold, not monthly, and they depend on the size and weight of your product.
How Fulfillment Fees Work
Fulfillment fees are applied every time an item is sold and shipped from an Amazon fulfillment center. The fee covers the entire order-handling process, including:
- Picking the item from inventory
- Packing it securely
- Shipping it to the customer
- Providing customer support
- Handling returns when applicable
Because fulfillment fees are charged per unit, selling more items means paying more in total fees, but only when you make a sale.
What Affects Fulfillment Fees
Amazon calculates fulfillment fees based on two main factors:
- Product size tier (standard-size or oversized)
- Shipping weight (including packaging)
- Larger and heavier items cost more to fulfill because they require more labor and shipping resources
- Standard-Size vs Oversized Items
- Standard-Size Products: These items are smaller, lighter, and cheaper to fulfill. Most private-label and retail-arbitrage products fall into this category, making them ideal for maintaining healthy profit margins.
- Oversized Products: Oversized items incur higher fulfillment fees due to increased handling and shipping costs. While they can still be profitable, pricing and margins need to be planned more carefully.
Why Fulfillment Fees Matter
Fulfillment fees are one of the most important costs to factor into your pricing strategy.
Since they apply to every sale, underestimating them can quickly reduce profits.
Understanding these fees helps you:
- Price products accurately
- Forecast profit margins
- Choose products that scale efficiently
Peak vs Non-Peak Fulfillment Fees
Amazon uses seasonal pricing for fulfillment fees, meaning non-peak rates apply during most of the year, while peak rates increase during high-demand periods, typically the holiday season, when order volume and fulfillment center capacity are under greater strain.

Monthly FBA Storage Fees (What to Expect)
When you use Fulfillment by Amazon (FBA), you pay monthly storage fees for keeping your inventory in Amazon’s warehouses. These fees are based on the amount of space your products take up, measured in cubic feet, and they change depending on the time of year.
How Monthly Storage Fees Work
Monthly storage fees are charged based on your average daily inventory volume stored in Amazon fulfillment centers. The more space your products occupy, the higher your storage costs will be.
Off-Peak vs Peak Season
Amazon uses seasonal pricing for storage to reflect demand and warehouse capacity.
Off-Peak Season (January to September)
Storage fees are lower for most of the year. This is generally the best time to hold inventory, test new products, and prepare stock ahead of high-demand periods.
Peak Season (October to December)
Storage fees increase significantly during the holiday season when fulfillment center space is in high demand. Peak storage costs can be two to three times higher than off-peak rates, which can quickly impact profit margins if inventory levels are too high.
Peak vs Off-Peak Storage Fee Comparison
| Season | Months | What to Expect |
|---|---|---|
| Off-Peak Storage | January to September | Lower storage rates and more flexibility to hold inventory |
| Peak Storage | October to December | Much higher storage fees and greater pressure to keep inventory lean |
Example for Standard-Size and Oversized Items
Standard size
- January – September: $0.78 per cubic foot
- October – December: $2.40 per cubic foot
Oversized
- January – September: $0.56 per cubic foot
- October – December: $1.40 per cubic foot
Exact rates vary by product size and year, but the seasonal increase during peak months is consistent.
Aged Inventory Surcharge
NOTE: From January 16, 2026 onwards, Amazon will implement updated rates to items that are aged 366 days or more.
Aged Inventory Surcharge, previously known as Long-Term Storage Fees, applies to inventory stored longer than 181 days or longer.
This fee is charged by assessing using an inventory snapshot on the 15th day of each month. And the surcharge is applied monthly, normally between the 18th-22nd day of the month.
It is important to note that this fee is separate from the monthly inventory storage fee.
Amazon tracks inventory using a first-in, first-out (FIFO) method. This means the oldest units in their network are always counted as sold or removed first, even if the unit that physically ships is a newer one.
Before January 16, 2026
- 181–210 days; $0.50 per cubic foot
- 211–240 days; $1.00 per cubic foot
- 241–270 days; $1.50 per cubic foot
- 271–300 days; $5.45 per cubic foot
- 301–330 days; $5.70 per cubic foot
- 331–365 days; $5.90 per cubic foot
- 366 days or more; $6.90 per cubic foot or $0.15 per unit, whichever is greater
After January 16, 2026
- 181–210 days; $0.50 per cubic foot
- 211–240 days; $1.00 per cubic foot
- 241–270 days; $1.50 per cubic foot
- 271–300 days; $5.45 per cubic foot
- 301–330 days; $5.70 per cubic foot
- 331–365 days; $5.90 per cubic foot
- 366–455 days; $6.90 per cubic foot or $0.30 per unit
- 456 days or more; $7.90 per cubic foot or $0.35 per unit
FBA Removal Order Fees
Amazon charges sellers for removing units from their fulfillment centers, and these are charged per unit according to shipping weight. Shipping weight is separated into two groups, namely: Standard size and Large bulky, extra-large and special handling items. Please refer to the table below for specific rates:
Standard-Size Removal Fees
NOTE: Shipping weight under 1lb is rounded up to the nearest 0.1lb; above 1lb uses whole pounds.
| Shipping Weight | Removal Fee per Unit |
|---|---|
| 0–0.5 lb | $1.04 ($0.84 from Jan 15, 2026) |
| 0.5–1 lb | $1.53 |
| 1–2 lb | $2.27 |
| Over 2 lb | $2.89 + $1.06/lb above 2 lb |
Bulky and Extra-Large Items
| Shipping Weight | Removal Fee per Unit |
|---|---|
| 0–1 lb | $3.12 |
| 1–2 lb | $4.30 |
| 2–4 lb | $6.36 |
| 4–10 lb | $10.04 |
| Over 10 lb | $14.32 + $1.06/lb above 10 lb |
FBA Disposal Order Fees
When you ask Amazon to dispose of items stored in their fulfillment centers, a disposal fee is charged per unit after the disposal order is completed. The fee is based on the item’s shipping weight and follows the same size categories as FBA removal orders (standard size or large bulky, extra-large, and special handling). You can view the disposal fee rates below.
Standard-Size Disposal Fees
Shipping weight under 1lb rounds up to the nearest 0.1 lb; all other tiers round up to the nearest whole pound.
| Shipping Weight | Disposal Fee per Unit |
|---|---|
| 0–0.5 lb | $1.04 (or $0.84 from Jan 15, 2026) |
| 0.5–1 lb | $1.53 |
| 1–2 lb | $2.27 |
| Over 2 lb | $2.89 + $1.06/lb above 2 lb |
Large Bulky, Extra-Large & Special Handling Items
| Shipping Weight | Disposal Fee per Unit |
|---|---|
| 0–1 lb | $3.12 |
| 1–2 lb | $4.30 |
| 2–4 lb | $6.36 |
| 4–10 lb | $10.04 |
| Over 10 lb | $14.32 + $1.06/lb above 10 lb |
You may notice that the fees for the Disposal and Removal fees are the same, and the only difference is where the item ends up. If you opt for disposal, Amazon will either sell this item away, or it may be discarded. However, if you opt for a Removal, Amazon will remove this item from their fulfillment center and ship it back to you.
Low Price FBA Fulfillment Fee
For sellers who subscribed to FBA services and priced their products under $10, will receive the less than $10 Average Selling Price (ASP) fulfillment rates, which are $0.86 less than the fulfillment rates for products priced above $10.
It’s important to note that while the Low-price Fulfillment rates by Amazon have reduced fulfillment fees, the other standard selling fees and FBA fees still apply.

Low-Level Inventory Fee
Amazon needs enough stock to distribute products quickly and cheaply. When inventory gets too low, this becomes harder, so the Low Inventory Level Fee encourages sellers to keep healthier stock levels. The fee now also applies to Small Bulky and Large Bulky items, while Grocery and slower-moving products remain exempt (though slow movers may get slower delivery speeds or limited availability).
The fee only applies when both your long-term inventory (90 days) and short-term inventory (30 days) fall below 28 days of supply. If either period is above 28 days, you won’t be charged. Amazon calculates this at the FNSKU level, and the fee is added to your regular FBA fulfillment fee for each unit shipped while you’re under stocked.
Low-Level Inventory Rates from January 15, 2026 and onwards

FBA Inbound Placement Service Fee
Amazon’s FBA inbound placement service gives sellers control over how their inventory enters the fulfillment network and what they pay for it. When creating a shipping plan, you’ll see a fee estimate for each option and will be charged the final amount 45 days after Amazon receives your shipment.
This fee isn’t fixed and can change over time. The amount you pay depends on a few key factors:
- Product size category: Fees differ based on whether your item is Small Standard, Large Standard, Small Bulky, or Large Bulky.
- Product weight: For small standard items, the actual unit weight is used. For larger items, Amazon charges based on whichever is higher, the item’s weight or its dimensional weight.
- How your shipment is split: Sending inventory to a single location usually costs more than using Amazon-optimized shipment splits.
- Where your inventory is sent: Fees can vary depending on the fulfillment center location, with some regions costing more due to capacity or demand.
Two choices for Inbound placement
- Minimal Shipment Splits (Fee Applies)
Send all (or most) of your inventory to one inbound location for convenience.
Amazon then decides how to redistribute your inventory across their network.
Fees vary by inbound location, with some regions, like the West of the US,
costing more. - Partial or Amazon-Optimized Shipment Splits (Reduced or No Fee)
Send your inventory to multiple inbound locations yourself.
- Amazon-optimized splits:
No fee if you send at least five identical cartons or pallets per item,
each containing the same quantity and item mix. - Partial splits:
You send Bulky-sized inventory to two or three locations (but fewer than
the Amazon-optimized option) for a reduced fee. This option is not available
for shipping plans for standard-sized products.
- Amazon-optimized splits:
You can track all charges in the Payments dashboard under Service fees, or use the downloadable FBA inbound placement service fee report for shipment, plan, and SKU-level details. It’s important to note that the availability of the inbound placements depends on the product type, quantity, the seller’s existing inventory across Amazon’s network, location of the customer demand, and the available capacity in Amazon’s fulfillment centers.
