USA – Where to keep my imported Alibaba inventory???

I’m planning on doing a home based business in where you’re not really allowed to keep inventory at your home in this county. That’s no big deal because I don’t really want it here anyways. I am planning on importing from Alibaba my smaller custom made product. It seems safer to have Alibaba supplier ship it to one fulfillment center here and slowly ship one or two boxes to Amazon as they permit me to.

My understanding is that once I sign up for Amazon FBA they will not let me send them 2000 qty of something to sell if I am a new seller. It seems like Amazon is pushing their weight and making you start by only sending in a little product at a time until you become more proven.

I think I will not make much money by the time I import the product to one location and then slowly turn around and break that larger shipment up and pay to slowly have it shipped to Amazon FBA. Am I basically thinking right about this?

I thought about keeping the inventory in a storage unit or something but I’m not really sure if that’s acceptable for a small business or not.
