How to take on an Amazon listing

I understand selling products which Amazon are selling on can be bad because they can lower the price by 50% just because they can. But, some people have told me that just because Amazon are selling on a listing, you shouldn’t be put off by it completely. So, any advice/tips on how to get a share of the monthly sales/buy box with Amazon on the listing??
