A question for sellers affected by the end of Small and Light
How have things gone for you? How have you coped and what actions did you take?
As a retailer of very small items at a low cost, the change has been pretty detrimental particularly in the UK where fees for my products doubled in less than one year.
Some actions I’ve taken
Increased the price on certain products where buyers would pay extra Switched some items to merchant fulfilled which is cheaper Focused on new products with a higher price point. The lack of notice by Amazon here didn’t help much to get these up and running Increased the amounts of products I sell even if the margin is lower
One concern I have particularly in relation to point 4 is future fee increases. This point means I essentially accepted the decreased margins and kept going but if Amazon were to do a similar price rise again it would be even more devastating.
Should I actually just accept that my product category doesn’t have much of a future?
Surely they cannot keep having these price rises as ultimately, the costs have to be passed on to buyers in order for sellers to make a profit and if customers are not getting low prices, it’s a problem as Amazon loses sales to competitors. Interestingly, this weekend I decided to purchase a household white goods item on the high street as it was cheaper than any available on Amazon. Even with black Friday offerings. That surprised me a bit.
