Behind the scenes when a listing is updated?

I feel any time I make any updates to my listings (add/change photos), change some text, change some attribute, etc…. it takes a long time before the change is updated on both Seller Central and the Amazon site.

Does anyone know of somewhere I can learn more about what actually happens behind the scene when a seller updates their listing? For example, is someone on the Amazon site looking through every update across every product SKU?
