Do you NEED to buy barcodes to list products?

Amazon’s being a massive headache right now: listing a single product feels impossible with the number of errors and issues I’m getting. I currently sell on Shopify and using a 3PL in the US to ship my orders. I just slap on a random barcode for my 3PL to scan. I’ve been running around watching Youtube videos trying to fix errors and what not and please correct me if I’m wrong but I would need to buy barcodes from GS1 to put onto my packages to be able to list them on Amazon?
