Does Unit Session Matter?

Silly question but I had a unit session average around 20-21% before advertising. I’ve doubled sales with 3rd party ads directing to my listings, but I know this extra traffic will drive down unit session % dramatically down. Is this number important? The sales have pushed me into top 10 of my category’s best seller ranking but I don’t want to shoot myself in the foot long term unknowingly.
