Downsides of GTIN exemption?

Any advice appreciated.

I’m selling a product from Alibaba in multiple colors and didn’t want to have to purchase multiple UPC’s. I got approved but now am doubting if this is the right decision. Heard about people being able to hijack your listing and also wonder how well generic products sell over branded ones. I hate that my listing says “Brand name: generic” Feel like it’s not a good look but I don’t know.
