FBA sellers being targeted by California to pay franchise tax
Any FBA seller selling in California (including out of state sellers) will be subject to a $800 minimum franchise tax. I personally have been hit with this franchise tax of $800. California also hit me with $750 in late fees and interest for a total of $1,550!!!!! I did only $5,000 in business in California in 2019. Therefore, California has taken all of my profits I made in their state in 2019. I expect to get letters for 2020, 2021 and 2022. I am going to contact FBA and see if I can exclude California in my Amazon sales options. I am going to contact a California state representative to tell them of the anti-small business taxation that is taking place on out of state sellers (I’m in MN). Perhaps if enough sellers complained to Amazon they would remove inventory from California warehouses relieving us of this unfair tax burden. Please see this article on the subject:
