Newbie question

I just listed my first batch of thrifted books on Amazon. On manage inventory, do I have to check the ” active ” box under status in order for it to be seen and purchased by customers? If I don’t check it does that mean it’s inactive? Or does it mean something else? Anything helps, thanks.
