Product box in background

I’ve noticed that a lot of my competitors and particularly more successful ones are putting their box in the background behind their main product image at a distance so it is small on their front page image. I know this violates Amazon policy, but I’m wondering why they are doing this? Does this help combat sellers from stealing your images?
