Product listing maintenance

Wondering what everyone is using to manage their product listings? Flatfiles? I have about 3000 skus with 200 parent skus and use to use a single flat file to make changes quickly but over the years have moved to dedicated flat files for each parent.

With globalization, standard changes and entropy I find find myself spending more time doing product maintenance. Any suggestions?
