Starting a business on Amazon with limited upfront capital
I have a concept for a beard product, and I’m trying to educate myself on how to best go about selling it. I don’t have more than $1000 to get started, which is my biggest hurdle, and I’d like to avoid any loans until I can get the business up and running.
I have already bought the first small shipment of about 100 units, which cost roughly $5 per unit. I believe I can sell these for around $25 each. I’ve already branded them
I’ve never set up an Amazon store before though, so I’m not sure where to start.
- How much of a cut does Amazon take?
- Do I need to pay extra to make sure people can find my product on Amazon? Or are there other marketing costs I should consider?
- Do I need to send it to an Amazon fulfillment center, or can I ship them myself (at least this first proof of concept batch)?
- Should I create an LLC before jumping in?
Its a bit overwhelming, so I’m not sure where to start. I don’t need any “don’t bother start a product business in 2022” types of answers. I’m just looking for objective cost information if anyone has any expertise.
