The Nightmare Error Code 5461 – Listing On Amazon
I manage the seller account for a company that is registered to the Brand Registry. In fact, this company was one of the first to be invited to the program. After years of selling and listing the products that we manufacture, we hit a wall.
We attempted to add various SKUs to Amazon for our latest round of new products. We got an error when attempting to list them and it goes as follows:
You may not create new ASINs for the brand [redacted]. If you believe the product you want to sell is not currently in the Amazon catalog and should be added as a new ASIN, please copy and paste the following URL in a separate window and complete the form: [link redacted]
Well, the link provided did not help since no form was generated. This prompted us to contact seller support. They asked for the following:
1. Brand
2. UPC or EAN or JAN (if seller has applied for GTIN exemption, UPC is not required)
3. SKU (If you are creating ASINs for multiple product items or variants, all SKUs are required)
4. Category
5. Store where the issue is occurring
6. Product description with mandatory details like dimensions or measurement, item weight, model or part number should be provided
7. Manufacturer
8. Product title (including details of variations in color, size, measurements, model or part number, item weight and so on)
9. Are you officially affiliated with the brand? If so, provide a letter of approval from the brand
10. Real-world images of the product (front and back images of the product including bar code) along with UPC and brand name, packaged and unpackaged, and unfolded if the item is apparel
11. Screenshot of the 5461 error with the Brand name, date and timestamp visible in the background
12. Batch ID with the error code is required, if using feeds.
Okay, not bad since we have the data on a spreadsheet, and taking photos isn’t all that hard. Our case is then sent to their listings team. And they ask for the same information except for photos… ok cool just resubmit the stuff. Then they ask for the photos again.. ok… resubmit
And then… they ask for the same information from 1-8… we ask to escalate the case to a supervisor. They ask for the same information. We submit it. They respond back and ask again for the same information… again.
Okay, what the actual fuck right? I schedule a call and explain what is going on and how support keeps asking for the same information. I ask for a supervisor and they said the only way they help me is if I submit the information again.
So here we are. the brand owners, the actual company behind the brand, are unable to list our products because we are not authorized to list using our own brand. Incredible.
I asked for a supervisor from the United States in hopes to get connected with someone who can actually do something about this. Wish me luck.
