GTIN or Exemption

This gets a little complicated. Well, to me.

My business partner and I have a product we are trying to get on Amazon (FBA). We went through GS1 and bought two GSINs and have tried to put them on our products on our page as we are setting it up. We keep getting errors though. What do we have to do to make the GSINs usable? Do we have to finalize something on GS1? Should we just try and go through the exemption process for Amazon? We are both new to this and just trying to figure it out, any help would be great! Thank you!
